Telemetry / SCADA Systems

Telemetry

Telemetry provides a cost effective way to monitor remote sites, without the expenses or delays associated with long landlines or the risk of broken circuits. Telemetry systems consist of two or more telemetry devices and an optional Status/Control Panel. One telelmetry device is located at a remote site where equipment such as pumps, valves, generators or lights are located and another telemetry device is located at a monitoring point where events and conditions such as power failure, water level, flow rate, fire, etc., are monitored by instruments like data loggers, chart recorders and alarm/control panels.

Wireless Telemetry devices can be used to monitor and control variables such as; temperature, pressure, flow, water levels, power, security, fire, etc. Most commonly used in Municipalities, Manufacturing, and Refineries.

SCADA

Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, a computer system for gathering and analyzing real time data. SCADA systems are used to monitor and control a plant or equipment in industries such as telecommunications, water and waste control, energy, oil and gas refining and transportation. A SCADA system gathers information, such as where a leak on a pipeline has occurred, transfers the information back to a central site, alerting the home station that the leak has occurred, carrying out necessary analysis and control, such as determining if the leak is critical, and displaying the information in a logical and organized fashion. SCADA systems can be relatively simple, such as one that monitors environmental conditions of a small office building, or incredibly complex, such as a system that monitors all the activity in a nuclear power plant or the activity of a municipal water system. The major benefit of using a SCADA system is it allows more efficient and cost-effective management of remote sites.
